International Players/Imports

The Tamaki Lightning have a long and proud history of bringing over international players to play in the team and help out with coaching. This has been extremely successful as our past imports have not only brought an added level of experience, but also helped develop the club culture and technical knowledge. Our past international players have generally enjoyed their time in New Zealand, with some staying for multiple seasons.

If you are (or know) an international player with past playing experience interested in spending a year or two (or more) in New Zealand and play for the Lightning, we would love to hear from you.  Although we are an amateur club we do offer an exciting opportunity to experience a diverse New Zealand culture. We will do our best to help with immigration as well as help you settle through assisting with finding accommodation, transport and work

Testimonials from former Lightning International players

“When I moved to NZ in 2002 and I found out I could play football again (after not having played since my senior year in high school 8 years earlier) my eyes lit up.  I was fortunate to end up at the Tamaki Lightning after talking to a few people about the number of teams in Auckland. The number of friends I've made (both visiting import players and NZ residents) has been invaluable in making my time in NZ that much easier and more comfortable.  While I have stepped away from the club recently due to other commitments in my life, I certainly am looking forward to returning one day to continue to help grow the sport in NZ.”

"I could not have been more fortunate to have spent 4 seasons as an American Import with the Tamaki Lightning American Football Club. The members of this organization demonstrate the strongest of character, brotherhood, and integrity that goes far past the gridiron. I consider these individuals to be lifelong friends and am proud to have been a member of this club and associated with such outstanding individuals"
